The Bible treats wisdom as something worth more than money, and as something God is glad to give rather than something reserved for the clever. It begins with reverence for God, grows through instruction, and shows up in ordinary decisions. These verses are a good place to start when you need direction.
“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (WEB)
The most direct invitation in Scripture: if you lack wisdom, ask, and God gives generously without shaming you for asking.
“The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (WEB)
Wisdom starts with reverence for God, not with raw intelligence or experience.
“The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge.” The book of Proverbs opens where wisdom itself begins.
“Happy is the man who finds wisdom.” Scripture calls wisdom a blessing to be sought, not a burden.
Wisdom is given by God rather than manufactured by us, it comes from his mouth as knowledge and understanding.
Paul says all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ, so the search for wisdom leads to a person.
When a decision is in front of you, James 1:5 makes the first step simple: ask. Then give God the ordinary means he usually works through, unhurried thought, Scripture, and the counsel of a few people who know you well. Proverbs pairs asking with listening, so wisdom tends to grow in people who stay teachable and are willing to be slow.

Proverbs adds that wisdom comes from God (Proverbs 2:6) and begins with reverence for him (Proverbs 9:10), and it grows in people who accept instruction and correction rather than leaning only on their own understanding.
It means reverent awe and trust toward God rather than being frightened of him. Proverbs 1:7 and 9:10 call it the beginning of knowledge and wisdom, because taking God seriously reorders how we see everything else and is the starting point for living well.
