Bible Verses About Money and Provision

The Bible speaks often about money, not to shame us, but to free us: to trust God's provision, hold wealth loosely, and find contentment. These verses offer a healthier perspective on finances.

Matthew 6:33

But seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. (WEB)

Put God first, and trust him with the practical needs that worry us.

Philippians 4:19

My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (WEB)

A promise of provision rooted in God's abundance, not our circumstances.

Hebrews 13:5

Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, “I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.” (WEB)

Contentment grows from God's presence, not from how much we have.

1 Timothy 6:10

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (WEB)

It's the love of money, not money itself, that the Bible warns against.

Proverbs 3:9-10

Honour God with your wealth, generosity as worship.

Matthew 6:24

“You can't serve both God and Mammon.” A heart can have only one master.

Applying these verses

If money is a source of anxiety, Matthew 6:33 and Philippians 4:19 are good anchors. The Bible's invitation is to loosen our grip, trusting God as provider tends to quiet financial fear more than a bigger balance ever does.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Bible say about money?

The Bible doesn't condemn money itself, but warns against the love of money (1 Timothy 6:10) and calls us to contentment and trust in God's provision (Hebrews 13:5; Philippians 4:19), seeking God's kingdom first (Matthew 6:33).

Is it a sin to be rich according to the Bible?

The Bible doesn't call wealth itself sinful, several faithful people in Scripture were wealthy. It warns instead about the love of money, greed, and trusting riches more than God, and calls the wealthy to generosity.
